Eaux vives

It's hard to show how I feel about kayaking in simple words but I guess I will give it a go. I think about it everyday, I reminisce about the great memories I have made on the water and I think about the next river that I will run.

Nouria Newmans video shows this better then I could explain! https://vimeo.com/100836879

In fact kayaking was the reason why I ended up choosing the académie of Grenoble for the assistantship program, the fact that it includes Briancon, arguably one of the most popular areas for kayak tourism in Europe made it was a definite yes for me.

Today I finally got out on the water with the help of two of the nicest lads from Annecy Yann and Damien. It's something that is repeated about the kayaking community, that they extremely welcoming and it's true. I recieved no end of help in finding paddle buddies (For you non-kaykers these are our best friends, the ones who drive you places, talk shit and rescue you, and make you drink beers out of you shoes.) and their trust is remarkable. Although it was a mild class 2/3 short run on the Fier and I was freezing my ass off in club boater gear I could not shake the smile I had on my face from the get on.

I think it says a lot when I found myself actually missing the smell of my dirty kayaking gear drying in the bathroom!
Gute nacht Éanna
